Occupational First Aid Level 1

Occupational first aid level 1 is the most popular WorkSafe BC first aid and CPR course offered in British Columbia. Candidates enrolled in this course will learn basic first aid, CPR, automated external defibrillator techniques and administrative responsibilities of a first aider.

This first aid and CPR course is most intensive one day first aid courses available. It is a intensive 8 hour course that costs approximately 75 dollars to complete. Providers of this course can be found throughout British Columbia.

Many first aid training providers offer equivalent certification courses that are recognized by WorkSafe BC. The Canadian Red Cross has a workplace emergency first aid program termed “WEFA” for short. This is a 8 hour course that is recognized at the same level as Occupational first aid level 1. St. John’s Ambulance also has a equivalent course to occupational first aid level 1. The Lifesaving Society has also introduced an equivalent course to OFA level 1. All courses provide candidates with certificate valid for 3 years upon completion of the course. Course includes a skill examination and a multiple choice examination in which candidates must complete with a minimum score of 75%.

Occupational first aid level 1 courses are provide throughout British Columbia and required for attendants supervising workplace safety. Candidates will receive basic first aid and CPR skills and will be given the skills to complete the administrative responsibilities as deemed necessary by WorkSafe BC.

Candidates enrolled in this occupational first aid level 1 course will receive basic CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training. Successful candidates will be able to provide first aid training to victims of respiratory emergencies, circulatory emergencies, internal bleeding, deadly bleeding, fractures, sprains, strains and other sudden medical emergencies. Candidates will learn to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation on unconscious non-breathing victims and learn to apply AED’s. Candidates will also learn to provide assistant to victims with obstructed airways that are either conscious or unconscious.
