WorkSafe BC occupational first aid courses offer only a limited amount of available first aid and CPR courses to the people of British Columbia. The following is a list of courses designed and created by WorkSafe BC:
- Occupational First Aid level 1 – A 8 hour course.
- Transportation Endorsement – A 8 hour course.
- Occupational First Aid level 2 – A 35 hour course.
- Occupational First Aid level 3 – A 70 hour course.
- Occupational First Aid level 3 Refresher Course – A 35 hour course designed to re-certify previous OFA level 3 certified candidates.
The following is a list of stand-alone CPR courses made available through the Canadian Red Cross:
- Health Care Provider CPR (CPR HCP)
- CPR level “C”
- CPR level “B”
- CPR level “A”
The Red Cross also offers re-certification courses for candidates looking to renew previous awards. The following is a list of available re-cert courses:
- Standard First Aid and CPR level “C”.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR level “A”.
- Health Care Provider CPR (CPR HCP).
- CPR level “C”.
The following is a list of courses offered exclusively by the Lifesaving Society:
- AED Responder.
- AED Provider.
The Lifesaving Society focuses a lot of training and emphasis on automated external defibrillator courses. The Canadian Red Cross has focused its efforts on providing childcare first aid and babysitting courses.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. Johns Ambulance and the Lifesaving Society all offer equivalent courses in terms of standard first aid, emergency first aid and the stand alone CPR courses. All providers, except for St. John’s Ambulance provide first aid and CPR re-certification courses.
Regardless of the first aid and / or CPR course you choose, either one will help you learn the skills to save a life. Be prepared for an emergency by taking first aid and CPR training.
